April 15, 2017: United Isn’t Alone; A Stealthier Assault on the ACA; Trump v. Kim Jong Un Won’t End Well

April 16, 2017 @ 12:24 pm

We kick off this week's show with an interview with Helaine Olen, who wrote in The New York Times this week that United's decision to bloody a paying customer for refusing to "voluntarily" give up his seat is a microcosm of some larger, and genuinely troubling trends in our society.

Then we'll be joined by Christine Grimaldi, a reporter for Rewire News, to talk about how Donald Trump and HHS chief Tom Price can and may undermine the Affordable Care Act without Congress -- and how those moves might hurt women and LGBT people.

Finally, we'll speak with Christine Ahn, co-founder of the Korea Policy Institute and international coordinator for WomenCrossDmx.org, for her insights into what rising tensions between the US and North Korea are really about.

April 8, 2017: Partisan Reality in the Age of Trump; Phyllis Bennis on America’s Dangerous Syrian Adventure

April 9, 2017 @ 1:44 pm

For decades, Republicans have not only rejected the neutral arbiters of fact -- the media, the academy, science -- bought sought to create their own, alternative information infrastructure. This week, we'll speak with Vox's Dave Roberts about a piece he wrote recently laying out how this "tribal epistemology" is playing out under a president whose mendacity is unprecedented.

Then we'll be joined by Phyllis Bennis, director of IPS' New Internationalism Project and author of Isis and Syria: The New Global War on Terror, to talk about Trump's sudden turnabout on Syria, Friday's missile strikes, and what might happen next.

April 1, 2017: What Next After Trumpcare’s Implosion? | Neil Gorsuch: The Chamber’s Judge

April 2, 2017 @ 11:42 am

This week, we'll be joined by Harold Pollack, a mild-mannered health wonk from the University of Chicago, for a post-mortem on the disastrous GOP bill to "repeal and replace" the Affordable Care Act -- and a look at what may lie ahead for healthcare.

Then we'll speak with Daniel Dudis, director of Public Citizen's Chamber Watch, to discuss a new report he and a colleague wrote about the Chamber of Commerce's legal philosophy and litigation strategies. This is timely, as Neil Gorsuch, Donald Trump's pick to replace Antonin Scalia on the nation's highest court, hasn't said much about his own philosophy, but used to represent the Chamber in private practice.

Playlist:
Haley Reinhart and Postmodern Jukebox: "Creep"
Patty Loveless: "Two Coats"
Marcia Griffiths: "Working to the Top"
Cachao: "Los Tres Golpes"
