June 27, 2015 Show

June 28, 2015 @ 2:56 pm

This week, Joshua Holland takes some time to process what just happened at the Supreme Court -- a big week (actually two weeks) for progressives.

Then we'll be joined by Grant Gallicho from Commonweal Magazine to discuss the New Pope's Encyclical on the Environment.

Finally, we'll speak with Jeet Heer, a senior editor at The New Republic, to talk about the last time the conservative movement came into conflict with a Pope -- and why it didn't work out terribly well for them.

And then we'll leave you with a few highlights from Barack Obama's moving eulogy for Reverend ( and state senator) Clementa Pinckney, who was gunned down last week at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston.

This week, we'll speak with Seattle City Councilmember Mike O'Brien, who went out in a kayak to take part in protests against Shell's Polar Pioneer drilling rig, which is headed North to plunder a pristine Arctic ecosystem.

Then we'll be joined by Dana Goldstein. Dana, a staff writer with The Marshall Project, wrote this week about the difficulties society faces balancing justice against rehabilitation for very young violent offenders.

Finally, Joshua Holland offers some thoughts about this week's horrific act of racial terror in Charleston, South Carolina.
